first day back
Monday, January 7, 2008 2:45pm
First day back to school. It was alright, but I hated waking up at 6:30 in the morning. So, let me take you through my day because it is OH-SO interesting... not really, but bear with me! I take everyone down with me when I suffer!

My first class: Math10A (Calculus) 8:00-8:50. Not so exciting. One thing, though.. some Asian guy walks in, asking us what class this is (we answer, "math 10a"), then he asks us who the professor is (we answer, "don't know"), AND THEN, he walks to the front of the class.. he was the professor! Tricky, tricky.

Next class: CSE3 (Computer, Science, and Engineering) 9:00-9:50. I had to leave 5 minutes early from math to walk to this class because it's quite a walk. That class was alright; the teacher is high-tech with her laptop that she can draw on and stuff.

Next class: CAT2 (Culture, Art, and Technology -- requirement for the college I'm in at UCSD) 12:00-12:50. Luckily, the room I was in for CSE is the exact same room for this class. The teacher wore sunglasses inside.. he likes to emphasize certain words by slightly yelling them. On the bad side, he doesn't use powerpoints for his lectures, so it's hard to take notes because he talks too much and too fast. I had to switch classes, and this new professor is BORING. Honestly, how can someone talk about time and clocks for 50 minutes??? *yawn*

After this class, I had an hour break, so I went with my friend to her apartment so she could grab some books for her sister, but it ended up taking too long. Instead of getting off the shuttle to go with her, I just stayed on it and went back to school.

Last class: SIO 10 (Scripps Institution of Oceanography -- The Earth) 12:00-1:00. I enrolled in this class yesterday. I refused to take Chemistry, so I decided to give this class a shot. It's okay so far, but I don't know anyone. I feel out of place because its not just a freshman class.. it's for all levels.

After class, I went to the bookstore to buy all my textbooks. WHY DO THEY COST SO MUCH?! School rips you off. you can try selling back the books from last quarter, but they give you back so very little money. I can't even tell you how much I spent on books today; I guess I'm blocking that from my mind so I don't break down and cry!

That's pretty much my day. Now, I'm waiting for my friend to get done with her class at 3:00 because I have to drive her home.

What a day.

I remember going to an upper-division seminar for bio-organic chemistry (which I ultimately ended up dropping) and seeing this girl who looked younger than me standing by the door. I thought she was a student at Harvey Mudd who was cross-enrolling at Pomona, but it turned out she was the professor. A recent Ph.D. grad with a face like a sophomore. Threw me for a loop.

Man, I've got a hole in my pocket from books too. If it wasn't for Amazon, I wouldn't be able to afford the ramen I eat every day. Joy. Your classes sounds pretty cool at least :)

If you think it sucks having to spend so much money buying books, wait until it comes to selling them. The itty-bitty amounts that bookstores buy textbooks back for are ridiculous. You'd think that they would cut some slack for the most broke college students...but it always about making $$$. Anyway, good luck with the new school year. :)

I'm glad you're taking the Scripps class. I LOVE geology. And oceanography. I EAT that shit up. Yes I do. I like your layout. And your avatar, that's what brought me here today because I saw you on the most active list.

Tricky tricky
The thing I'm looking forward to in college is the professors being all tricksy....my teachers keep reliving stories about professors hiding quiz answers on bulletin boards and whatnot. I want to be a super sleuth and figure out all their clues. Unless I get stuck with lame-o's....

Ahh I remember Invisible talking about Amazon.com for getting your college books...and it seems someones_muse uses Amazon as well. Try it next quarter, I'm definitely hitting them up once its my time...

I know how you feel... I have this graphic calculator to sell and none of my juniors want it because they rather buy really cheap 3rd/4th hand calculators.

You really can't find any second hand ones at a decent price?
